What are locked Discord roles in the Server Settings? When you don't own a server, sometimes roles have a padlock item beside them. It means you dont have either the ability, or the permissions required to edit it. You CANT remove a lock, you CANT manually lock a role. Its just the system letting you know what roles you can and cannot edit. If you need help with a role thats locked. You'll either need to contact an Admin with more permissions than you, or contact the server owner. If you cant get help from either. This video shows you how to make a moderator role on Discord. Moderators are a necessary role to have in your Discord server in order to keep members behaved. The moderator role will need certain permissions enabled in order for them to be able to moderate the server correctly. In many Discord servers moderators will have the ability to kick or ban members. Having server moderators with these permissions can make moderating easy, however, can lead to certain vulnerabilities. As a replacement you can use a timeout role. It is important that your moderators have the ability to manage messages and mute members. The manage messages permission will allow users with the moderator role to delete messages sent by members. This will help keep the server clear of unwanted spam, profanity or NSFW content. When you set up a moderator role on Discord you will want to make sure that the administrator permission is disabled. The administrator permission gives complete control over the sever, and isn't needed by moderators. When you are creating the moderator role you will be able to set a custom name and color. The name can be personalized to your theme if you like, as a way to give a unique feel to your server. The color chosen for the moderator role will be the color of the moderator's names. It is best to choose a vibrant and easily readable name so they stand out in the chat. You will also want to set the moderator role to be displayed separately. This will ensure that server moderators are shown separately in the member's list so members can see who is active. As an option you can choose to allow members to mention the role. This will allow your server members to tag all moderators in the chat so they receive a notification. Tap ‘save’ once done.
