What is Shopify's API and why is it useful? In this video, we will learn about the two main APIs that Shopify provides. 👨‍💻 Want to go from zero to paid developer? Check out our program Freemote: 🤍 📷 You should connect with me on Instagram, it’s a fun place. :-) 🤍 For Merchants: 🔨 Looking for a reliable developer? Don’t waste your time on finding the right one, we can help: 🤍 🎬 Subscribe to learn more about Shopify, theme development, and freelancing: 🤍 🔎 Description: The two main Shopify APIs are namely the Admin API and the Storefront API. Shopify's Admin API is used to integrate Apps and Features within a Shopify store whereas the Storefront API can help you to build Shopping experiences apart from an online store. Developers are using the Shopify API to integrate third-party services and unlock the full potential of Shopify as a Shop System. Basically, any functionality can be leveraged using the API. Products and orders can be obtained by the API, inventory can be managed, meta fields, and many more. The two main ways of working with these APIs are accessed via REST or GraphQL. While I recommend getting started with REST, cause it is easier to understand, GraphQL will be the future of all new Shopify Features. 🔗 Resources: Get started with Shopify's Admin API 🤍 Get started with the Storefront API 🤍 👋 Are you new to the channel? Hey, this is Jan, awesome meeting you. :-) On this channel, we help people go from zero to paid Shopify developers. Personally, I graduated in mechanical engineering, which might be the second most German thing one can do, probably right after having a good taste for beer. Long story short, being a mechanical engineer just wasn't for me, and working as a freelance web developer checked A LOT more boxes. ✔ I wanted to be my own boss. ✔ I wanted to be in control of my life. (Especially income-, time- and location wise.) ✔ I wanted to choose who I work with ✔ I wanted to learn about new technologies ✔ I knew coding would be a good skill to have ✔ I finally felt like working on making my own dreams come true. The only problem was that I was lacking the technical and sales skills to make that happen right away. And this is also where all this "me, me, me" finally ties into something that's all about "you, you, you", because the truth is ... it could have been done a lot faster if I had just known how. If you're unsure which essential skills you need to get started as a freelance developer then you're in the right place. As a huge fan of online education, I created this channel to provide you with the exact information and mental frameworks that I would have needed when getting started. If you're looking for more personal guidance and direct feedback from industry pros, we also offer a clear path from start to finish through our Bootcamp Program Freemote. Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing more about your journey. Have an awesome day, Jan :-) 🤍

🤍 The REST Admin API provides an integrated billing solution that allows app charges to be handled by Shopify's merchant invoicing system. This guide provides an introduction to the REST Admin API resources related to billing and illustrates the workflow for creating and issuing charges. API resources The following REST Admin API resources are available to help you meet the needs of your specific billing model: ApplicationCharge: Used to bill merchants one time only (for example, when their free trial expires). This type of charge is recommended for apps that aren’t billed on a recurring basis. RecurringApplicationCharge: Used to bill merchants on a recurring 30-day billing cycle. UsageCharge: Used to charge merchants when fees are recurring, but vary from month to month. You can select the API resources for your billing model and include the amount to charge. Shopify handles charging the merchant and making sure you get paid. How it works The following diagram illustrates the workflow for creating and issuing charges: A merchant triggers a charge with an event that you've identified, such as app installation, service plan upgrade, or individual purchase. The app creates a charge for the merchant, which might be a recurring or one-time charge. Shopify verifies the charge and returns a confirmation_url that redirects the merchant to accept or decline the charge. If the merchant accepts the charge, then they're redirected to the return_url specified when issuing the charge. The charge immediately transitions from pending to active. After the charge is activated (the charge is in an active state), you get paid. If the charge is declined, then Shopify redirects the merchant and provides a notification message that the app charge was declined. Considerations Shopify Partners are more likely to recommend apps that they’ve used before. Consider allowing free app testing in Shopify Partner development stores to help increase your app sales. Development stores can be identified and granted free testing access through the Shop resource. They show up as an affiliate when you look up the plan name ({ "plan_name" : "affiliate" }). If your apps qualifies, then contact us to get your app listed on our Partner-friendly app list.

Shopify Laravel App Development | Discuss Script TAG Api & Shopify App Proxy Part 16

610
5
11
00:09:07
04.11.2021

I’ve recently published a course where I teach how to create Shopify apps and in that course, I’ve taught how to add JavaScript files using ScriptTag API. However, I’ve never really used that lesson entirely to show how powerful ScriptTags are when it comes to improving Shopify stores. In this article, we will talk about how you customize your Shopify store using ScriptTag API. Getting Started Before we start this tutorial, I want to disclose that I will be using the course Shopify app development with Node & React as the reference. What I mean is I will use the codes from the course BUT it does not truly matter as you will do the same steps for your ScriptTag file (aka JavaScript file). Though, I recommend either taking my course or reading the documentary of Shopify to create a Shopify node project. Okay, so let’s say we have the following JS file that allows us to install a ScriptTag to our development store. In the code above, we have the function createScriptTag that uses the ScriptTag API endpoints (GET & POST) to check if there is an existing ScriptTag with the same URL that we set for the src variable. If there’s none then the function will create the Script Tag. Once the script tag is installed, you can now work on the javascript file that you use for ScriptTag API. Using Script Tags to customize storefront When I say script tags, these are the javascript files that you imported using the ScriptTag API and to be honest with you, it’s not that TOO complicated. In fact, once the javascript files are imported to your Shopify store, you can finally customize the JavaScript file and use it to add stuff or edit stuff to your Shopify storefront. Shopify’s developer API has an incredible arsenal of endpoints available for connected Shopify apps to interact with a store’s data. From editing a stores products to altering a store’s theme, the API lets you customize functionality for stores in a plethora of ways. However, one of the often overlooked tools of Shopify app development is the Shopify Application Proxy. An app proxy is a setting that Shopify apps can use to route requests from your shop’s domain to any url of the app’s choosing. For example; 🤍 could become a direct link to 🤍. It’s up to the app developer to make that choice. #shopifyappdevelopment #shopifylaravelapp

Webhooks are a tool for retrieving and storing data from a certain event. They allow you to register an URL where the event data can be stored in JSON or XML formats. Webhooks are commonly used for: Placing an order Changing a product's price Notifying your IM client or your pager when you are offline Collecting data for data warehousing Integrating your accounting software Filtering the order items and informing various shippers about the order Removing customer data from your database when they uninstall your app Note You receive an email at the store owner's email address when a webhook fails. The email is sent only when the webhook is created by an app from the Shopify App Store or by a private app. If the webhook destination repeatedly returns a non-200 status response, then the webhook subscription is automatically deleted from your Shopify admin. On this page Create webhooks Delete webhooks Create webhooks Steps: From your Shopify admin, go to Settings Notifications. Scroll down to the Webhooks section. Click the Create webhook button. Laravel Shopify App Development | What is a Shopify Application Proxy and how can I use it Part 15

🤍 🤍 Shopify’s developer API has an incredible arsenal of endpoints available for connected Shopify apps to interact with a store’s data. A typical non-proxied user’s internet flow looks something like this: Typical Non-Proxied Shopify Flow The internet user accesses your site through 🤍your-store.com, which is set-up (typically by you) through DNS to route to Shopify. Shopify then renders your page based on your settings, and returns the webpage to the user. The user, due to your DNS settings, just sees “🤍your-store.com” in their address bar. A proxied user’s internet flow The same data is passed from the user to your website, then to Shopify. But Shopify acts as a proxy to whichever url the third-party app specifies, and sends the data there. That url then has the job of returning whatever it wants to the user. When an app proxy responds, there are two things that can happen. Case #1 — non-liquid response: The third party app responds with a non-liquid formatted response. The response can be anything; text, HTML, whatever it wants. The user sees that rendered in their browser as usual. For example: Let’s say that an app proxy sets up the path 🤍your-store.com/apps/proxy to point to 🤍example.com. Since 🤍example.com is a normal website that responds with HTML, the user sees the contents of 🤍example.com in their browser after visiting your store (🤍your-store.com/apps/proxy). Based on the internal proxy settings of the third-party app, the user might see 🤍example.com in their address bar, or they still might see 🤍your-store.com/apps/proxy. It’s up to the app, that’s how proxies work. Case #2 — liquid response: The third party app responds with a liquid-formatted response. When this happens, the user still sees 🤍your-store.com/apps/proxy in the address bar. However, the liquid contents are then rendered inside your store’s active theme. This means that the header, footer, and URL remain true to your store. The liquid contents are shoved in-between the header and footer, allowing the app-proxy to display contents that look as if your store is rendering them with styling intact. How can I use an app proxy? Let’s take a look at how us at Shop Sheriff use an app proxy to add Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) to your store. Shop Sheriff renders a non-liquid response to create unique AMP pages for every product, collection, and blog in your Shopify shop. First we set up an app proxy at /a/s by editing our apps settings like so:

Shopify’s GraphQL Admin API enables app developers to process charges through Shopify's merchant invoicing system. Shopify's merchant invoicing system simplifies and streamlines billing for store apps. As an app developer, you choose your billing model and set your prices. Shopify collects the funds and makes sure you get paid. Charges appear directly on the merchant's Shopify invoice, so merchants don't have to enter their credit card information to pay for apps. Apps that use Shopify's Billing API have higher free-to-paid conversion rates because charges originate directly from Shopify. You automatically receive a revenue share from Shopify. Your share of the revenue is defined in the Shopify Partner revenue share agreement. Shopify handles all chargebacks. Creating and issuing charges to users is a multiple-step process: A merchant starts an action that includes a charge, such as an app installation, service plan upgrade, or individual purchase. The app creates a charge for the merchant, which might be an app subscription or a one-time purchase. Shopify verifies the charge and returns a confirmation URL where the merchant is redirected to accept or decline the charge. When the merchant accepts the charge, they are redirected to the returnUrl specified by your app when it issued the charge. If the charge is declined, then Shopify redirects the merchant to Shopify admin, and provides a notification message about the app charge being declined. You can use webhook subscriptions to receive notifications about particular events in a shop. After you've subscribed to a webhook topic, your app can execute code immediately after specific events occur in shops that have your app installed, instead of having to make API calls periodically to check their status. For example, you can rely on webhooks to trigger an action in your app when a customer creates a cart, or when a merchant creates a new product in their Shopify admin. By using webhooks, you can make fewer API calls overall, which makes sure that your apps are more efficient and update quickly. For more information on how webhooks work, refer to Webhooks. Considerations If you create a webhook subscription through the Shopify admin, then that subscription won't be returned in API calls. These webhook subscriptions are associated solely to the shop, so the API can't access them. Webhook subscriptions are scoped only to the app that they're registered to. This means that when a webhook subscription is registered to an app, other apps can't view, modify, or delete it. To learn how to verify webhooks, refer to Manage webhooks with the Admin API. #shopifyappdevelopment #shopifylaravelappdevelopment
