This SAS tutorial provides an overview of SAS® Viya® architecture, how it can be used for faster processing of huge amounts of data and the most complex analytics, and the variety of point-and-click interfaces and programming languages available for data management and analytics. In this SAS How To Tutorial, Ari Zitin explores several examples of Python integration with SAS. There are many SAS Viya Cloud Analytic Services (CAS) that can be submitted from Python. In this Python integration demo, Ari focuses on predictive modeling. He shows how to connect to CAS, access in-memory data, bring data locally to use Pandas, and prepare data for predictive modeling. Ari then steps through how to build, score and assess a Decision Tree model. Finally, he takes a look at how he would go about creating additional predictive models such as a Random Forest model and a Gradient Boosting model to determine the best model type for prediction. Throughout this video, Ari is showing how to use Python to send commands and controls to the SAS Viya server. Data scientists and statisticians spend months perfecting their models and presenting results. Whether it’s running in SAS, Python or R, model results need to go somewhere where someone can consume them. Even the best models have little value if a decision maker can’t see them, or worse, understand them. To make greater use of models, decision makers need more than just the daily numbers. They need to find out how the results will change under varying scenarios. This task is trivial for a data scientist; simply write a program to change the numbers and run a scenario. However, not everyone is well-versed enough in a programming language to do that. To quickly get scenario analysis functionality out, data scientists typically place parameter estimates within a carefully crafted spreadsheet and send it to decision makers. This inevitably results in multiple, scattered versions of files that float around the company, forever to be lost to the ethos of email and shared network drives. With SAS Viya and SAS Visual Analytics, all scenario analysis and visualizations take place from one location.
