Chapter 1: Black Mesa Inbound It started off like any other day. At 8:47am, theoretical physicist Gordon Freeman boards a tram in the massive Black Mesa Research Facility, located in the heart of the New Mexico Desert. His destination - the Sector C Test Labs, where he is scheduled to help the researchers perform a critical experiment in his area of expertise - Anomalous Materials. As his tram inches its way through the bowels of the facility, he passes by many of his colleagues, who all seem ready to start yet another routine day. Playlist with all completed chapters: 🤍 Notes: - Welcome all to my second playthrough of Black Mesa! I had originally covered this game about a year ago, right before it had its 1.0 release. Now, with the Definitive Edition out, I figured I'd toss up another full playthrough as much has changed in the game since. I attempted to use the BMCE mod to add more variety to the Black Mesa employees, but it seems that this mod is currently not working with the Definitive Edition. Otherwise, I have left the game unmodded to preserve the developers' vision - I will be playing this game on Hard difficulty all throughout - Since my original playthrough series of this game, the outdoor areas of Inbound has received significant graphical improvements, most notably the rock formations and foliage as seen at 2:36, Trivia: - The security guard at 00:41 knocking impatiently on the door is none other than Barney Calhoun, a good friend of Gordon and featured extensively in the Half-Life 2 games as well as the Gearbox expansion Half-Life: Blue Shift - The Loader, a robot only seen in this chapter, makes its first appearance at 5:54. It used to have a much more pronounced dynamic shadow as it emerges from the corridor. This was greatly reduced in the Definitive Edition (thanks for noticing this Zefingstien!) - The G-man is seen for the first time at 7:00, adjusting his tie in the adjacent tram - A fair bit of irony at 7:06 as the tram VOX reminds employees to "work safe", as the tram moves over a large radioactive spill

Gordon Freeman in the... tram. Or, rather in the black mesa facility...
Dr. Gordon Freeman starts his day riding a tram through the Facility headed to his workplace. Gordon is about half an hour late for work, but otherwise it seems like it will be an uneventful day. At one point of the ride Gordon notices a strange man in a blue suit watching him from another stopped tram, but the ride continues and Gordon finally arrives, albeit a bit late, at his destination: the Sector C Test Labs. Black Mesa Inbound is the first chapter in Half-Life. This chapter is mainly non-interactive, acting as an introduction to the game. Credits with the names of people who participated in the development of the game are shown throughout the chapter. The tram ride gives the player an overview of the Black Mesa Research Facility as well as an idea of the vast size of it. When the tram ride ends, the player enters the second chapter in the Anomalous Materials lab.
In this video I show the Half-Life train intro (game that needs no introduction) in 3 different versions: the original 1998 game (GoldSource engine), the 2015 Black Mesa remake (Source engine) and the 2018 Project Lambda demo (Unreal Engine 4). Unfortunately the latter, which was intended to be a second full remake of the game, seems abandoned, if you go to their website, you can't even download this demo anymore (I had it on a hard drive).

Lets play through Half life 1 again. this time with RAYTRACING
Gordon Freeman rides the tram to his underground lab at 8:47AM; little does he realize that it is the calm before the storm. The public announcement system announces the most recent news, making ironic comments about hazardous substances and urinalysis tests, as disturbingly large pools of radioactive waste pass by him. Doors clunk open and close again behind him as he goes slowly underground to the test chamber. From the windows, Gordon can see nuclear missiles ready for transport to launch sites, robots nearly crashing into the tram, and the intricate workings of the Black Mesa Research Facility revealing themselves as being fragile, and more often than not, broken. Bashing on a locked door, Barney Calhoun passes by as Gordon silently continues his trip. During this time, information about Freeman is presented to the player; such as his age, degree and the, somewhat cryptic, "Administrative Sponsor: Classified". At a Loader crossing, the tram is stopped, and on the left, a mysterious man in a blue suit stares blankly past him. Eventually, the tram reaches its destination, and after stepping out onto the precarious catwalk, Gordon's day only just begins. Trivia This chapter features the only confirmed sighting of Barney Calhoun in Half-Life, affirmed by the beginning sequence to Half-Life: Blue Shift Marc Laidlaw never confirmed that Barney Calhoun from Half-Life 2 is indeed the same from Half-Life: Blue Shift, but the fact that the second one is called by "B. Calhoun" suggests that they are the same person. Due to the fact that Barney's tram ride lasts less than 5 minutes, Half-Life must either begin in late 8:46, the time changing as the Black Mesa Announcement System is speaking, or Barney Calhoun lingered in the tram for a while before getting out. The time at which the chapter ends depends on the amount of time it takes for the player to get between the two doors in which the new chapter's first map loads. It is more likely that the canon time for the end of the chapter is 8:52, as Gordon is already running late. In the penultimate map of this chapter, it is possible to see a different version of the Sector C Test Labs entrance behind the door by using cheats or external map viewers.

In this video: INBOUND Black Mesa (previously known as Black Mesa: Source) is a third-party total conversion modification currently in development for Valve Corporation's Source engine. The stated goal of the project is to recreate Valve's critically acclaimed 1998 video game Half-Life using the more advanced capabilities of the Source engine. The 40-person volunteer development team says they hope to create a more engrossing in-game world with more varied, complex environments and more challenging, realistic gameplay. During its eight years in development, Black Mesa has been featured in several video game publications and received direct attention from Valve. Due to its long development time the modification has recently become notable for its delays, and dwindling updates on the status of its completion. The delays led to Wired Magazine awarding Black Mesa high spots on their Vaporware Of The Year list in 2009, and again in 2010. The developers plan to release the game as a free download when completed. On June 10, 2012 the Black Mesa development team announced that new "media" would be released once their Facebook page reached 20,000 likes. This goal was reached on June 11, 2012 when 8 new screenshots were released, along with an announcement of the start of a "social-media campaign" towards their first release. On September 2, 2012, project leader Carlos "cman2k" Montero announced that the first Black Mesa release will take place on September 14, 2012. Public voting saw the game approved for distribution on Steam's Greenlight program and will be released through Valve's own software,as well as a standalone download. Black Mesa (formerly Black Mesa: Source) is a Half-Life 2 total conversion remaking of Valve Software's award-winning PC game, Half-Life. Utilizing the Source engine, Black Mesa will reintroduce the player as Doctor Gordon Freeman, along with the original cast of memorable characters andenvironments seen in Half-Life. Black Mesa was built and founded on the basis that Half-Life: Source didn't fully live up to the potential of a Source engine port of Half-Life. As such, Black Mesa was founded to fully reconstruct the Half-Life universe utilizing Source to its fullest potential in terms of art detail, level sizes andcode features. It should be noted that the project is being built from the ground up and is not a simple port of Half Life maps and models into the Source Engine. The idea is to remake the storyline used in Half Life into a new polished Source Engine version with new models, maps, soundtrack, voice acting and textures. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source to play - only a copy of any Source Engine game installed on Steam. For more details, check the System Requirements. Inbound is the first chapter in Black Mesa. The first G-man sighting occurs in this chapter during the tram ride. He can be seen looking at the player from another tram just before the passage above the loader near the radioactive water leakage. Level Design One of the major objectives on the redesign of this chapter was creating and defining a visual style and standard for the indoor tunnel components and track sections which are used throughout the rest of the chapter. Spencer Rose was the main designer of the level. The most recent pass was done by Anthony Stone; the textures and prop models were created by various members of the Black Mesa team. This level went through a number of internal iterations and many designs were experimented with before settling on the current version. During the development, the Inbound chapter could have been consolidated into one single map to avoid the pauses of load points, but the developers choose to split up the chapter into three parts to avoid breaking engine limits on things like brushes and entities, and, thereby, enabling the map to compile properly Comparison to Half-Life -Notable Changes In Half-Life, the tram ride has approximately 5 minutes in length. In Black Mesa that ride was extended for about 8 min. The Facility is populated with a vast amount of scientists and security guards, looking much more alive and less bland. In the missile assembly room, the solder robot is being watched by a scientist. The forklift worker which is seen driving near the missile assembly isn't present in Black Mesa. He was replaced by regular scientists. On its first appearance, the Loader isn't carrying any box and follows a different path. The tug tram isn't seen in this chapter. The G-man sighting in Black Mesa is more subtle than the Half-Life's, because this time the tram doesn't stop near the G-Man's tram like in the original ride. Desperate scientists are seen trying to escape from the radioactive water leakage.

Half-Life in 21 minutes, this sunday, get set. As an introduction to HL21 - Black Mesa Inbound speedrun completed in 4:49 Approximately 57 seconds faster than ordinary tramming to the Sector C Test Labs and Control Facilities. Lowering fps_max to 5 to clip out of the train. Activating trigger_changelevels manually by touch to make the train take shortcuts and/or skip pauses. Standing inside the trigger to make barney open the final doors before going to the tram. c0a0d could be done quite a lot faster.
