Hi Everyone, Here is a short bonus tutorial, production oriented. Originally a Patreon request about clarifying displacement. I think this may as well benefit some people on my channel. - Generate quick UVS within Zbrush - export 16bit/middle gray displace - export 32 bit exr displace - export normal maps Also note that even if you don't use Zbrush to bake displacement and normal maps, the last half of the video can still be useful to understand displacement technics in general. In what situation should you use either 16 or 32bit ? Well it's your choice, we use both in production. This is a time-lapse video tutorial in which I demonstrate the workflow I use to create characters using Houdini and Zbrush. I start off by creating a base mesh in Houdini. Then I bring it into Zbrush to finalize the silhouette of the character. After that, I use ZRemesher and I take the model back into Houdini to clean up the topology. Next, I bring it back to ZBrush to do the final sculpt and texturing. For some time I have been using the Boolean and the Voxels together in Houdini. With this workflow you can make quick hardsurfaces, so in my case I have made a gun as example. With the boolean it is easy to make shapes and with the voxels you can make the highpoly for baking. I can really recommend you trying out this workflow and combine this with polyreduce and auto uv. This idea has also been used in other software, like 3Ds max booleans and then use Zbrush to make Highpoly. 🤍

Z tools for #Houdini 🤍 Z is a set of tools for simultaneous modeling in Houdini and #ZBrush. Import and export of the geometry occurs automatically when you switch between ZBrush and Houdini windows. You don't need to worry about the files in which the geometry is stored. An example of modeling in both programs at same time: 1. Create a model in Houdini. 2. Now when you need to use ZBrush modeling tools activate tool "Z Export". As a result, ZBrush will start (if it is not running) and the geometry will be immediately ready for modeling. 3. Next, when you have finished working in ZBrush, simply activate the Houdini window, for example, using Alt+Tab. Now the edited geometry will appear in Houdini. So you focus on modeling in both programs. You do not need to click a lot of buttons to import or export. You also can quickly import existing geometry from ZBrush with "Z Import" tool. For quick automatic retopology there is a tool "ZRemesher". You can do retopology automatically without unnecessary actions. Z supports PolyPaint in both directions. In Houdini, the PolyPaint texture is stored in "Cd" point attribute. Z works in Windows and GNU/Linux. In this video I am creating a Macrophage for my project LIFE-the-app. Using reference is a great way to push the quality of your work. For this asset I'm starting in ZBrush to sculpt the basic shape, then I move into Houdini to do some procedural geometry. The final destination is Unreal Engine where I do the layout and shading etc. I also used Substance designer to bake some mesh-maps for use in the shader.
