Up to this point in our series, we've discussed only numbers. Sure, there's been a lot of them, but now it's time to start discussing letters. We begin with one of the earliest character encoding schemes: ASCII. Take aways: At the completion of this lesson, each student should be able to: • explain the purpose of ASCII, • explain how the first two bits of 7-bit ASCII classify the represented character, and • convert 8-bit ASCII to its represented character. #ascii #character #bit
A short tutorial which explains what ASCII and Unicode are, how they work, and what the difference is between them, for students studying GCSE Computer Science.
We look at how the ASCII table can be used to encode and decode text and binary.
Ever been bit by a Unicode bug? Maybe you weren't treating UTF-8 encoded data correctly, or tried to read it as ASCII? Maybe you mixed up UTF-8 vs UTF-16? Unicode and character encoding might seem like a tricky topic, but let's break them down and learn about them piece by piece, from ASCII to code points to graphemes to combining character modifiers and more. This video describes the fundamental principles of character sets, character encoding, ASCII and Unicode. In particular, it covers the limitations of ASCII and the plethora of extended ASCII code pages. It also covers the design goals of Unicode, and describes the way control bits are allocated in the variable length, multi-byte character encoding of the Unicode Transformation Format, namely UTF-8.

This video takes an in-depth look at how computers can save information from the world at large as data. This video discusses the fundamental elements we need to capture the analog world and effectively store it digitally. Then explores how we use encoding techniques to store alphanumeric data which consists of letters, numbers, punctuation and special characters. Our main need to write a code that can encode the given string from user. 1. The string is having characters and each character has standard ASCII value which is numerical number. 2. Now we need to add some constant value to ASCII value of each character and print that again as encoded form. 3. The "charAt ()" function used to address each character from string . 4. Then the value of character is taken. 5. Then the new value is converted to character again and printed . The above mentioned steps can be used to understand the logic of how the code works and so everyone can easily understand.
